Why should I be their person?
Because one trusted adult can make a real difference in a young person’s life.
When a child or teen has at least one caring adult who sees them, listens to them, and shows up for them, they are more likely to:
- Feel supported and connected
- Cope better with stress and challenges
- Make healthier decisions
- Reach out for help when they need it
How can I be their person?
You don’t need the perfect words or all the answers. Being their person is about showing up consistently and creating space for connection.
- Check in regularly, even in small everyday moments
- Listen without rushing to fix or judge
- Notice changes in mood, behavior, or energy
- Ask simple, open questions like “How are you really doing?”
- Be present during everyday moments—rides, meals, practices, or walks
- Follow up when something feels off
- Show care that isn’t based on performance or behavior
