Goal

Build basic awareness and promote healthy habits. Keep it simple, positive, and empowering.

How to Start the Conversation

“October is a special month when we learn about making healthy choices. That means taking care of our bodies and minds by saying no to things that can hurt us—like eating too much candy or not getting enough sleep. You are the boss of your body, and safe choices help you grow strong, happy, and healthy!”

Key Messages

  • “Your body is special and needs healthy fuel like food, water, sleep, and play.”
  • “Some things can hurt our bodies—like smoking, vaping, or drinking alcohol.”
  • “It’s okay to say ‘No, thank you’ and tell a trusted adult if someone offers you something unsafe.”

How to talk about it

  • Use stories, visuals, or games (like sorting healthy vs. unhealthy choices).
  • Keep it upbeat—focus on what helps them grow strong rather than on fear.
  • Practice saying “no” in a safe, fun way.

In-Class Learning Activity

Get creative and design a billboard to promote a positive prevention message that encourages healthy choices and raises awareness in your community. This is part of the Parents Lead Billboard Contest, where students have the chance to share their ideas with a wider audience and compete for the opportunity to have their design displayed in the community.
